Its just weird that Quicken Online <b>does</b> work cross-browser. And to be honest, I think that most every application can be designed with Javascript and AJAX. If the UI features are complex, they need to be simplified.

This is a market opportunity, but one that Intuit should be able to fill once they get focused. Or someone else like mint.com will do it as well.

Of course, in talking about Quicken Online, I can't help but point that they do not offer bill pay integrated in. So basically, all I can do is see my transactions roll through and get bill reminders. That's actually not that useful to me. Give me synchronized real-time accounts, transfers, and bill pay and you probably will get my subscription money. Otherwise, I'll wait and do things the hard way.

There is little chance of any of the Quickbooks Online code working on a non-Microsoft OS. It's just a bunch of huge ActiveX controls. Microsoft gives you a way to basically deploy a client application in a browser...that doesn't work anywhere else. Not 5 minutes ago I accidentally tried to go to my (non-Quickbooks) payroll site in Firefox- no dice. So, I am stuck with Windows. Yea.

QB O/L has a quite a few complex UI features, I think it would be a real challenge to implement with JavaScript. However, that indicates to me a market opportunity! Let me know if you want to give it a go....
